Trump remains cool as gunman shot on lawn of White House as President gave speech

The US president was just minutes into a statement to the media when he was rushed out of the room.

The President was giving a speech at the iconic location in Washington DC when he was crowded by Secret Service agents and led outside.

He returned a little while later to tell reporters there had been a shooting on White House grounds.

“It seems to be very well under control… But there was an actual shooting, and somebody has been taken to the hospital. I don’t know the condition of the person.”

When asked if he was okay the President said: “I don’t know. Do I seem rattled?”

The President confirmed with the press that a gunman had been shot by officers on the lawn of the White House.”

The US Secret Service meanwhile tweeted: “The Secret Service can confirm there has been an officer involved shooting at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Ave.

“Law enforcement officials are on the scene. More information to follow.”

Mr Trump told reporters he did not know if the suspect harboured any ill intentions towards him.

“It might not have had anything to do with me,” the president said.

He added: “It’s unfortunate that this is the world, but the world has always been a dangerous place. It’s not something that’s unique.”

The gunman was shot on the lawn of the White House as the President gave a briefing to the press.

There have been news of planned attacks on the President with him saying last week “You won’t see me around for a while” indicating that he was going into a military-style operational mode with his most trusted and loyal soldiers.

News on the gunman will come to light soon.
